Chapter 5 I'm Screwed

 5:  I'm Screwed

I rolled onto my back and stared at the ceiling, raising my left hand high. My hand was rough and scarred from rolling around, in contrast to my exposed forearm, which was clean and white, though upon closer inspection, it had faint scars.

It suddenly felt strange that I would be leaving this body in two months. Maybe I had grown attached to it after living in it for so long.

Soon, the ending of Jaden's life, and my time in this novel world, would arrive. I had thought I would be overjoyed when that day came, but now that it was so close, I didn't feel as happy as I had expected. Of course, I didn't want to continue living here either. Read Entire Volume 1 for 15

Time passed, and soon, there was just over a month left until the festival.

I spent my days as usual, tormenting the servants everywhere except the training hall. I had plenty of time to visit the guild Eloi had mentioned, as the novel said to go there four days before the festival.

This time, I went to the kitchen to bother the head chef and occasionally snatch some snacks—or rather, steal them—before heading back to my bedroom.

As I was going upstairs, a butler coming downstairs handed me an envelope. It was rare for me to receive a letter, so I looked at him in surprise. It was a yellow envelope with a round flower design. The design was familiar, but I couldn't quite remember what it was. What kind of flower was this again?

"It's from the Leonis Count's family."

"What?"

"It's from the Leonis Count's family."

I stared at the butler in disbelief, but he just repeated the same words.

I looked at the flower design on the envelope again. It was a moonflower, the symbol of the Leonis family!

Damn!’

"Thank you!"

I took the envelope roughly and ran back to my bedroom.

Why was the Leonis family sending me a letter all of a sudden? There was no such content in the novel. My heart raced with anxiety. I quickly opened the envelope with slightly damp hands and carefully unfolded the letter inside.

[Dear Jaden Grace,

Hello? I'm Ian Leonis.

I'm writing to you because I can't forget the unforgettable memories of that night. Your beautiful crying under me keeps playing in my mind, and I can't forget it. I want you so much, Jaden, but you've been so cold, not even sending a letter. Tired of waiting, I'm writing first. Can you come to a banquet in two days? I'll send a carriage.

Ian, who can't forget you.]

"Damn it!"

I read the letter in disbelief and crumpled it up, throwing it towards the window. What a bastard! He knew! And now what? "Crying beautifully under me"? The letter flew through the air and landed on Eloi's face as he walked in, causing it to fall to the floor.

‘... Shit.’

"Hey, brother!"

I could feel the blood drain from my face as I stared at Eloi in shock. He picked up the crumpled paper from the floor without expression and began to unfold it. As he was about to read it, I reacted with incredible agility, grabbing his hand.

"No, don't!"

If Eloi read that, I was as good as dead. I would die at Eloi's hands. If he found out that I had done something with Ian! No! I tried to snatch the paper from him, but Eloi glared and tightened his grip on the letter.

In a panic, I shouted, "It's just trash!"

"Then why won't you let me see it?"

I could feel my eyes wavering. I didn't know what to say, so I just moved my mouth. Eloi kicked my shin hard.

"Ouch!"

"Don't play dumb."

The pain was so intense that I staggered back. I stared at Eloi with tears in my eyes, and he had already unfolded the crumpled paper. Ah... I could hear a bell ringing. It was the bell signaling the end of my life.

I looked at Eloi awkwardly. His delicate eyebrows furrowed, and his eyes seemed to waver as well.

He slowly raised his head and looked at me.

"..."

"..."

A heavy silence enveloped us. I couldn't bring myself to meet Eloi's gaze and bowed my head.

"Crying beautifully under me..."

I didn't respond. To be precise, I couldn't respond. I couldn't figure out what excuse to make.

‘Damn you, Ian!’

"Why did you do that? I told you to kill him, not to roll around with him."

"Th-that..."

Eloi came closer and lifted my chin. His cold eyes were filled with murderous intent, as if they might burst at any moment. Think, Park Min-soo. You need to give a good answer here. I felt the back of my neck, which had been warm a moment ago, turn cold.

"Th-that... I thought it would be better to befriend him before executing the plan!"

Eloi's eyebrows twitched. His red eyes stared at me intently. Yeah, I know it's nonsense. But Jaden, who blindly follows Eloi, might have done something like this. He sometimes acted strangely for Eloi.

"..."

Eloi looked at me for a while with a subtle expression, then turned away. He didn't seem upset, but he didn't look happy either. It was similar to the expression my friend had when his cat brought him a dead mouse. I didn't know the exact meaning of his expression, but what was important was that he wasn't taking me to the basement right now.

To show Eloi that I was even more obedient, I lowered my eyes pitifully.

"But... if you don't want me to do this, I won't. I'll stop doing useless things."

I quickly expressed my intention to stop since I had no plans to accept Ian's banquet invitation anyway. Eloi would probably tell me not to do useless things, right? I just hoped he wouldn't hit me. I was used to the violence, but the pain didn't lessen over time. I just became better at enduring it.

Contrary to my expectation that he would respond immediately, Eloi remained silent. As the silence continued, I slowly raised my head.

"Brother?"

"Perhaps... this might not be useless."

"What?"

Eloi's eyes shone intensely as he seemed to be plotting something. I felt an unknown anxiety from that gaze, but it was too late.

"Accept Ian Leonis' invitation and tell me everything you talk about with him. Everything, down to the most private details. Ah, even how you rolled around."

Eloi caressed my neck with a firm grip and disappeared with a smirk.

The unexpected turn of events left me in a daze even after he left. All I could do was hold my head in despair.

"I'm screwed."
